If you follow through the proofs, you can solve for the unbiased MLE using Bessel's correction. It's a bit tedious, but you'll find sigma_n^2 =
frac{n}{left(n-1right)^2} left(x_n - mu_nright)^2 + frac{n-2}{n-1}
sigma_{n-1}^2
